About this Workshop:
Telling stories through pictures has been a method of expressing ideas well before the invention of written language. From polished graphic novels to monthly superhero comics, from manga digests to vertically-scrolling web-comics, from underground ‘zines to the weird doodles that you shared with your classmates in school, drawing comics is still a highly popular practice.
But how do you get started?
This workshop will focus on the essentials of sequential art:
- Starting with developing ideas for stories,
- breaking them down into simple sketches,
- and then developing those into a finished comic.
Whether drawing from one’s own life experiences, telling a story about something that happened to someone else, creating something instructional, or spinning an entirely fictional tale, all of these subjects will be covered over the course of the workshop.
The results will be shared within the group and critiques are welcome, if they are wanted. Pen, stylus, paper, tablet; all tools and media are welcome. Bring your tools, bring your curiosity, and bring your desire to create. All levels of skill are welcome!
