We’ll cover the basics of Godot\, a free and open source software for making 2d and 3d games. Godot is similar to Unity but does not operate on a “freemium\, JK not freemium\, JK takebacksies” model. Instead Godot is owned by no-one and is instead developed by a non-profit and is free to use forever! \nThe end result will look like the event photo with pre-made assets that will be available for download. If we have time we might also cover a goal to reach + win message and maybe some quick and easy things like a jump sound effect. DESCRIPTION:Calling all sound people — let’s make some noise! Join us for this 2hr workshop and volunteer opportunity with freesound.org! I will bring my Rode NTG5 shotgun Foley microphone\, a wind screen\, 2 pairs of headphones\, my boom pole and Zoom H6 Handy Recorder. I will also bring my Zoom H2n ambient sound recorder and mono pod. (Note this event is weather dependent and may be re-scheduled if it’s raining or too cold/windy). \nAGENDA:1pm – Let’s meet at the bottom of Mt. Tabor for a meet and greet. We can take a look at all the sound producing goodies everyone has\, gear/equipment\, pass out the scavenger hunt checklist and split into teams\, or stay together if we want.1-2pm – For the 1st hour we will focus on listening and capturing the interesting sounds around us. This could be dogs barking\, a random street performer\, rustling trees\, crunchy leaves\, etc.2-3pm – For the 2nd hour we will focus on producing our own sounds once everyone feels comfortable having passed around the mics and practiced recording.3pm – Meet back at the bottom of the hill and see how we all did! \nNext\, I will provide a link to upload your recordings and I will spend some time editing and isolating the sound effects in Audacity. Then I will upload the finished sound effects to freesound.org! Participants must be OK licensing their sounds CC0 in the public domain. \nWHAT TO BRING:-Anything that produces a unique or interesting sound (bells\, slinky\, squeaky shoes\, 2 coconuts banging together\, aluminum foil\, etc.).-Microphone if you have one (even voice notes on your phone will do!)-A boom pole\, selfie stick (for phones)\, even a broom handle and some duct tape could do!-An interest to walk around like a goon for 2 hrs recording random sounds and making weird noises. \nSO what is Foley? \nWiki: “In film-making\, Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to films\, videos\, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. These reproduced sounds\, named after sound-effects artist Jack Foley\, can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. Foley sounds are used to enhance the auditory experience of the movie. From polished graphic novels to monthly superhero comics\, from manga digests to vertically-scrolling web-comics\, from underground ‘zines to the weird doodles that you shared with your classmates in school\, drawing comics is still a highly popular practice. \nBut how do you get started?This workshop will focus on the essentials of sequential art: \n\nStarting with developing ideas for stories\,\nbreaking them down into simple sketches\,\nand then developing those into a finished comic.\n\nWhether drawing from one’s own life experiences\, telling a story about something that happened to someone else\, creating something instructional\, or spinning an entirely fictional tale\, all of these subjects will be covered over the course of the workshop. \nThe results will be shared within the group and critiques are welcome\, if they are wanted.
