I started our little group nearly 2 years ago because I Googled “Blender 3d classes near me\,” and found nothing affordable or offered IN-PERSON!! Since then our community has grown and we are now the answer to that need\, offering workshops on a monthly basis!!!! Although I work full-time in IT for a non-profit\, a large part of my job is teaching people (of all backgrounds and ability levels) how to understand and use technology. I graduated with a STEM degree and have several years of experience using Blender and other open source tools for artists. You can expect this workshop to be clear\, thorough\, and most importantly fun! I really hope you can join us.

This could be dogs barking\, a random street performer\, rustling trees\, crunchy leaves\, etc.2-3pm – For the 2nd hour we will focus on producing our own sounds once everyone feels comfortable having passed around the mics and practiced recording.3pm – Meet back at the bottom of the hill and see how we all did! \nNext\, I will provide a link to upload your recordings and I will spend some time editing and isolating the sound effects in Audacity. Then I will upload the finished sound effects to freesound.org! Participants must be OK licensing their sounds CC0 in the public domain. \nWHAT TO BRING:-Anything that produces a unique or interesting sound (bells\, slinky\, squeaky shoes\, 2 coconuts banging together\, aluminum foil\, etc.).-Microphone if you have one (even voice notes on your phone will do!)-A boom pole\, selfie stick (for phones)\, even a broom handle and some duct tape could do!-An interest to walk around like a goon for 2 hrs recording random sounds and making weird noises. \nSO what is Foley? \nWiki: “In film-making\, Foley is the reproduction of everyday sound effects that are added to films\, videos\, and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality. These reproduced sounds\, named after sound-effects artist Jack Foley\, can be anything from the swishing of clothing and footsteps to squeaky doors and breaking glass. Foley sounds are used to enhance the auditory experience of the movie. Foley can also be used to cover up unwanted sounds captured on the set of a movie during filming\, such as overflying airplanes or passing traffic.” \nWhat is freesound.org? \nFreesound is a collaborative database of Creative Commons Licensed sounds where anyone can browse\, download and share sounds to use in their own projects. Freesound lets users select 1 of 3 licenses for their sounds: \n-zero (cc0): https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/-attribution (by): https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/-attribution noncommercial (by-nc): https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/3.0/ \nFor this workshop we will be capturing sounds for the public domain (free for commercial use without attribution). \nDONATE!Please consider donating to freesound.org here: https://freesound.org/donations/donate/ \nNOTE: If you are in the going list\, and decide you are not going to attend\, please update your RSVP to “Not going.” Event leaders are simply volunteers and try their best to make it a fun experience for everyone\, but assume no liability for any injury\, loss or damage.

SUMMARY:Exploring the Art and Practice of Visual Storytelling: Comix Workshop #2
DESCRIPTION:Donate Here: NAME YOUR PRICE \nAbout this Workshop:Telling stories through pictures has been a method of expressing ideas well before the invention of written language. From polished graphic novels to monthly superhero comics\, from manga digests to vertically-scrolling web-comics\, from underground ‘zines to the weird doodles that you shared with your classmates in school\, drawing comics is still a highly popular practice. \nBut how do you get started? This workshop will focus on the essentials of sequential art: \n\nStarting with developing ideas for stories\,\nbreaking them down into simple sketches\,\nand then developing those into a finished comic.\n\nWhether drawing from one’s own life experiences\, telling a story about something that happened to someone else\, creating something instructional\, or spinning an entirely fictional tale\, all of these subjects will be covered over the course of the workshop. \nThe results will be shared within the group and critiques are welcome\, if they are wanted. Pen\, stylus\, paper\, tablet; all tools and media are welcome. Bring your tools\, bring your curiosity\, and bring your desire to create. All levels of skill are welcome! \n-Patrick Bright
