It is OK to leave class for small breaks but we cannot hold-up the class for a student who is absent for more than 5-10 mins. at a time.\nSupport Your Peers: At Digital Dabblers events it is impossible to offer a "one-size-fits-all\," experience (but we do our best!). Some folks may join with more experience than others. If you are familiar with a topic\, and notice a fellow classmate struggling\, offer to help! If you are struggling with any of the material please speak up and let a host or classmate know. Because we cater to beginners and intermediate artists\, it is essential that be build a supportive environment for folks at all levels to succeed.\nPersistent Negativity: When students are persistently negative this drags the mood and experience down for all attendees. As an organization and organizers we are not perfect! And many things are outside our control (parking can fill-up on weekends\, students join with a wide skill range\, and some may present cognitive and physical disabilities). We are receptive to all feedback\, and offer accommodations to the best of our ability\, but are a very small organization with no full-time paid staff and rely 100% on volunteers to carry out our services. While we are proud to say we have the help of industry professionals\, and offer in-depth instruction\, we charge $30/mo. and attendees should not expect this is a University or Accredited institution with a vast array of resources charging $1000+ for their classes.\nExpectations for Arriving On-time: If an event is not listed as "drop-in\," it is expected that participants not arrive more than 15-20 minutes late to an event. In some cases we may not be able to permit entry past this point.\nAlways RSVP before attending an event: Please RSVP before every Digital Dabblers. Individuals who do not RSVP on the website and agree to our code-of-conduct will not be permitted to attend.\nPlease check website regularly: If an event is cancelled\, or our schedule changes\, we do our best to inform students via email. Please check the website before attending any events to ensure they are still happening (if an organizer gets sick for example a last minute cancellation can occur).\nRespect for all attendees: Treat everyone with dignity and respect\, regardless of background\, experience\, or perspective.\nRespect for the host(s): Please treat the host and the space with respect at all times.\nInclusive language: Avoid using offensive or discriminatory language.\nAppropriate sharing: Share information and experiences in a respectful and mindful manner. Avoid oversharing personal details or sensitive information. Please be mindful of specific topics of NSFW art when discussing with everyone in earshot. It's important for folks to provide consent to hear/partake in certain discussions.\nHealth and well-being: While open communication is encouraged\, excessive discussion of personal health issues may not be appropriate for a social setting.\nMental Health: Digital Dabblers is not a mental health facility. Individuals who express thoughts of suicide or are perceived to be in-crisis will be referred to the appropriate services for their needs. In some cases individuals may be removed from our services if their behavior poses a risk to the organization or to their peers.\nNo hate speech or discrimination: Any form of hate speech\, discrimination\, or harassment will not be tolerated.\nAvoid political discussions: To maintain a positive and inclusive environment\, please refrain from discussing political topics.\nPolicy for Removal: Digital Dabblers bylaws permit the President or any officer/director to remove an individual from services at their discretion.\nAbility to Appeal a Removal:  Digital Dabblers bylaws permit an individual to appeal their removal from the community to the board of directors within 30 days of being notified. Past this point\, individuals may re-join after 1 year and by vote from the board of directors.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS\n Q: Are Your Workshops Open to Beginners?A: Can you draw a stick figure? Well then\, you are qualified to attend most of our events! Intermediate workshops will be noted in the title. If you are feeling like you need additional help with any of the concepts please let the host or TA know and we would be happy to schedule 1-on-1 time. \nQ: How do I access the training?A: Most workshops will be located at our headquarter office. Make your way to the entrance (in-between My Fathers Place and Slow Bar) and search for DIGITAL DABBLE on the door buzzer. We will be upstairs (follow the sign) PLEASE CALL FOR ASSISTANCE IF YOU NEED TO USE THE ELEVATOR. For partnership events please make sure to check the address listed on the event! \nQ: Why doesn't the password work for downloadable course files?A: Most workshops will have downloadable files/instructions but these are password protected and made available on the day of the event. This gives the host time to make any adjustments to the files before the workshop begins. Most workshop content is eventually made available as a free online course! \nQ: A lot of workshops mention Blender. So what is Blender?A: Blender is the free and open source 3D and 2d creation suite. It supports the entirety of the 3D pipeline—modeling\, rigging\, animation\, simulation\, rendering\, compositing and motion tracking\, even video editing and game creation. In addition\, Blender has a powerful vector based 2d animation feature called Grease Pencil. Blender is licensed as GNU GPL\, owned by its contributors. For that reason Blender is Free and Open Source software\, forever. \nQ: Is there parking and is it free?A: There should be street parking around the training center and it is FREE on the weekend. If you take public transit there are options that should get you very close. \nQ: What happens if I show-up late?A: For events at Digital Dabblers\, HQ we have a 15 minute buffer built-in to accommodate late arrivals. Shhh\, just don't tell anyone! 🙂 If you are more than 15 minutes past the starting time of this event the doors will be locked. This is to respect the time of your classmates and the instructor. For partner events at other spaces it is best to arrive as close to the start time as possible. \nQ: Does the software cost money? A: Always check the event page to confirm. If we're teaching using Blender it is free to download and use forever! Just make sure to have it installed on your laptop/device before arriving. For other workshops like Procreate or Procreate Dreams\, Aseprite\, etc.\, the price of the software and links to download will be listed in the description. \nQ: Do you provide computers/equipmentA: There are currently 7 lab computers and 2 tablets available on a first-come first-serve basis. \nQ: What do I need?A: Please plan to bring your own laptop with the latest version of the software installed (unless you plan to use a lab computer). If you need a laptop we will have a few lab computers available but these are first come first serve. Make sure to arrive early if you need a device 🙂

Kristian has taken the guess work out of using this simple but powerful tool and has developed a 20 page comprehensive guide free to download after the event. Follow-along step-by-step as we can take the minimalist\, gamey route OR the realistic\, more intricate path. Both are very educational\, expanding on processes and techniques in pixel art and encouraging critical decision making. During the workshop you will utilize efficient tools like the:– Line tool– Custom brush– Gradient tool– Ink – Shading mode \nFor a gamey feel\, we need to keep the canvas at a small size. A recommended size to start with would be 32 x 48\, as to be in a fair size range between characters created and the surrounding environment. This workshop is perfect for total newcomer to pixel art or someone with years of experience! \n \n \n \n \n \n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS\n Q: Are Your Workshops Open to Beginners?A: Can you draw a stick figure? Whether you’re a beginner or looking to enhance your skills\, this workshop is perfect for all levels. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to boost your 3D sculpture\, and 3d modeling game! \nBEFORE YOU ARRIVE:Blender is cross-platform and runs equally well on Linux\, Windows\, and Mac computers. But before you arrive make sure your OS supports the latest version of Blender 5.0 LTS. Which can be downloaded here: https://www.blender.org/download/.If you need a laptop we have four spare lab computers for use during the workshop. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION/AGENDA\n We’ll cover:\n\nWe will start by going through an overview of Blender\, the UI\, settings/preferences\, and leave time for open Q/A (10 mins)\nNext we will begin trying out essential 3d sculpting tools such as grab\, pinch\, smooth\, flatten\, draw\, etc. (30-45 mins)\, this will cover the basics of 3d sculpting in an open-ended and stress free way.\nAfter this we will add some style to your 3d sculpture! (30 mins)\nLast\, we will render our creations and compare results in two render engines (Cycles and Eevee).\n\nBut that’s not all – we’ll also have plenty of coffee\, tea & snacks on hand to keep you energized and focused throughout the workshop. \nOPEN TO BEGINNERS:Can you draw a stick figure? Well then\, you are qualified to attend this event! This is a co-discovery style workshop (meaning there is less of a structured step-by-step lesson\, and more of a relaxed sandbox style environment). (30-45 mins)\, this will cover the basics of 3d modeling such as: extruding\, bevel tool\, loop cuts\, tips/tricks for selecting and handling a 3d mesh.\nAfter this we will add some style to your 3d object! (30 mins)\, covering the basics of setting up shader nodes and talking conceptually about rendering.\nLast\, we will render our objects and compare results in two render engines (Cycles and Eevee).\n\nBut that’s not all – we’ll also have plenty of coffee\, tea & snacks on hand to keep you energized and focused throughout the workshop. \n \n \n \n \n \n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS\n Q: Are Your Workshops Open to Beginners?A: Can you draw a stick figure? Make sure to arrive early if you need a device 🙂 \n\n \n \n \n \n \n CODE OF CONDUCT (Please read before RSVP)\n \nExpectations for Classroom Participation: It is expected that participants will maintain a positive attitude and a willingness to learn\, be challenged\, and communicate their needs to the host(s). Past this point\, individuals may re-join after 1 year and by vote from the board of directors.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n REVIEWS!\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYour review\n\n \n Your overall rating\n\n Select a Rating5 Stars4 Stars3 Stars2 Stars1 Star\n \n\n\n \n Title of your review\n\n \n \n\n\n \n Your review\n\n \n \n\n\n \n Your name\n\n \n \n\n\n \n Your email\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n This review is based on my own experience and is my genuine opinion.\n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n Submit Review\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n Patient instructor and easy-to-follow steps\n January 15\, 2025\n \n This course is absolutely beginner friendly. This course welcomes complete beginners as we will go step by step. We will not be focusing on modeling in this course; this course is purely focused on making rigs. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n BEFORE YOU ARRIVE:\nBlender is cross-platform and runs equally well on Linux\, Windows\, and Mac computers. But before you arrive make sure your OS supports the latest version of Blender 4.2 LTS. Which can be downloaded here: https://www.blender.org/download/.\nIf you need a laptop we have three spare lab computers for use during the workshop. \nAlso download the starter file for this workshop (download on day of event): https://u.pcloud.link/publink/show?code=kZtiWc0ZhCdjYNCBERYa8iTX6YhjgRA0J1LV\n\n \n \n \n \n \n WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION\n Whether you’re just starting out or an expert looking for a fun project\, this workshop is for you! Join the digital dabblers and make your very own hand rig in Blender! \nWe’ll cover:\n\nWe will start by going through an overview of the provided starter file\, basic model topology for joints and UI (20 mins)\nNext we will begin creating armature bones! (30 mins)\, this will cover the basics of armatures: extruding\, parenting and bone constraints.\nWeight Painting: we will go over how to automatically assign weights\, minor weight paint touch ups and go over the limitations of weight painting (30mins)\nLastly\, we will briefly go over what shape keys and drivers can do to try to address the limitations of weight painting (20 mins)\n\nBut that’s not all – we’ll also have plenty of coffee\, tea & snacks on hand to keep you energized and focused throughout the workshop.\n \n \n \n \n \n FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS\n Q: Are Your Workshops Open to Beginners?A: Can you draw a stick figure? Past this point\, individuals may re-join after 1 year and by vote from the board of directors.\n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n REVIEWS!\n \n \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nYour review\n\n \n Your overall rating\n\n Select a Rating5 Stars4 Stars3 Stars2 Stars1 Star\n \n\n\n \n Title of your review\n\n \n \n\n\n \n Your review\n\n \n \n\n\n \n Your name\n\n \n \n\n\n \n Your email\n\n \n \n\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n This review is based on my own experience and is my genuine opinion.\n\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n \n \n Submit Review\n \n \n\n \n \n\n \n There are no reviews yet.
